Celebrating

Social Work

NASW Kansas Chapter Began in 1974.

In 1974 - the Kansas legislature passed three levels of social work licensing into law at the BSW - MSW - LSCSW levels. Kansas was one of the first states to pass three levels of social work licensing.

When social workers unite together, the profession has a larger voice, which means more influence with policy makers, and employers to make critical changes.

Historic Changes Enacted

50 years after the historic Kansas Social Work Practice Act was passed into law.

Governor Kelly signed HB 2484. This is a historic milestone as Kansas was the seventh state to pass Social Work Interstate Licensing Compact Legislation.

With the Social Work Compact now enacted in 7 states, the next steps are to begin the work of forming the Compact Commission.

This year during March Social Work Month - Kansas Social Workers celebrate a historic landmark with the 50th anniversary of the state’s Social Work Practice Act. Kansas became one of the first states in the country in 1974 to pass three levels of licensure at the bachelor, master and post-graduate clinical level. Prior to licensing anyone could legally call himself a social worker and offer mental health services.
